What is Neoprene?

It is always good to know exactly what you are wearing and where it comes from. Hence a very small piece of preliminary information. Neoprene has been around for a long time (1931), has many (industrial and medical) applications and was called Duprene in the early years. The inventor of Neoprene is DuPont Performance Polymers .

To begin with, Neoprene, like latex , is just rubber . Neoprene, however, has had a different treatment during production, which gives it a more bulky and foamy character. Besides frequent use in water sports, neoprene has been used in the fashion industry for years. Usually glued to a highly stretchable polyamide carrier, so that it is also easy to put on and take off. The material is of a cast quality (is poured hot liquid and then dries by air cooling), which also makes it 100% bi-stretch (4-way stretch). So there is no tension in the material. This only benefits the fit; it stretches equally in all directions, without having a preference in the direction. The process of casting neoprene is a costly process (much longer production time due to air drying). Cheaper types of material are often calendered (i.e. hot liquid applied to a rapidly rotating rolling machine and dried with compressed air). As a result, these materials always have a "walking direction" that only goes in 2 directions; up and down or left to right (aka 2-way stretch).

Custom-made in Europe

Because we are talking about a precious type of material for more exclusive club and party wear, Moon Heels has this fashion produced "custom-made". For this we have searched and found a few workshops in Europe, which are specialized in the processing of this Softskin neoprene. (In other words, this is something completely different from the much thicker windsurfing and diving suits). Every garment made of Softskin neoprene therefore has a production time. The total time including transport from abroad to Moon Heels is between 5 and 7 working days. After this we can send fashion to you or you can pick it up in Maarssen (whatever you wish)
