What is Neoprene?

It is always good to know what you are actually wearing and where it comes from. Hence a very small piece of preliminary information. Neoprene has been around for a long time (1931), has many (industrial and medical) applications and was called Duprene in the early years. The inventor of Neoprene is DuPont Performance Polymers .

For starters, Neoprene, like latex , is just rubber . Neoprene, however, has undergone a different treatment during production, giving it a more bulky and foamy character. In addition to frequent use in water sports, neoprene has been used in the fashion industry for years. Usually glued on a strong stretching polyamide backing, so that it is also easy to put on and take off. The material is of a cast quality (is poured into a hot liquid and then dries by air cooling), making it 100% bi-stretch (4-way stretch). So there is no tension in the material. This only benefits the fit; it immediately stretches in all directions, without having a preference in the direction. The process of casting neoprene is an expensive process (due to air drying much longer production time). Cheaper types of material are often calendered (i.e. hot liquid applied to a fast-running rolling mill and dried with compressed air). As a result, these materials always have a "running direction" which only goes in 2 directions; up and down or from left to right (or 2-way stretch).

Custom made in Europe

Because we are talking about an expensive type of material for more exclusive club and party wear, Moonheels has this fashion produced "custom-made". For this we have searched and found a few workshops in Europe, which are specialized in the processing of this Softskin neoprene. (in other words, this is something completely different from the much thicker windsurfing and diving suits). Every garment made of Softskin neoprene therefore has a production time. The total time including transport from abroad to Moonheels is between 5 and 7 working days. After this we can send fashion to you or you can pick it up in Maarssen (whatever you wish)
